Joint Center Selma Event -- 2:30-4 pm Saturday (today):  If you're in Selma, come to our Joint Center event at the Selma Public Library (corner of Selma Ave. and Broad, about 3 blocks north of the bridge).  We've got Ted Shaw (former head of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund) and three of the nation's top political scientists on race and voting--Professors Khalilah Brown-Dean, Andra Gillespie, and Ismail White--discussing the Joint Center's new report (below).  We are proud to partner with the Black Belt African American Genealogical & Historical Society.  Click this link for more details.

Selma Tweeting & Photos:  This weekend we'll provide real-time updates from Selma with photos @SpencerOverton @JointCenter.  Last year's trip is reviewed in a post here.

Real Data on The Impact of 50 Years of the Voting Rights Act:  The new Joint Center report by Professors Brown-Dean, Hajnal, Rivers, and White reveals data from the last 50 years on: 1) racial turnout; 2) racially polarized voting; 3) policy outcomes by race; and 4) number of elected officials of color.  The report is critical to understanding the impact of the Act and the future of voting rights.  Click here for the 2-page summary, the 46-page full document, and coverage (e.g., Washington Post, BlackPressUSA, The Nation).
